Our Story

Delicious homemade goodness

While a menu boasting Cajun delights such as etouffee and shrimp creole may be all too familiar to a Southeast Texas town, which is home to many residents with roots in nearby Louisiana, the addition of Jamaican fare such as roti, curry chicken and “JaCajun” jerk chicken may come as a surprise to those accustomed to the culinary scene in Beaumont.  A marvelous and colorful food truck, The Jamaican Cajun is the brainchild of Nyjuma Howard, a Beaumont resident for a decade. The idea of a food truck seemed a natural fit to Ms.Howard, who was familiar with the vast array of local street vendors in New York, selling everything from hot dogs and beef patties to potato knishes. As for the menu, it is inspired by her Jamaican grandmother and the wonderful recipes that she shared with Ms. Howard as a child, as well as Cajun cuisine she has experienced living in Beaumont.  “I have a deep love of food and would like to share my passion for good, lovingly prepared food with others.  Hopefully, Beaumont residents will feel the same way.” Indeed. The Jamaican Cajun Food Truck provides Jamaican & Cajun Specialties made hot and fresh daily in beautiful Beaumont, Texas.
